What is the Rankin Martial Arts Club?

The Rankin Martial Arts Club (RMAC) has been serving the Frederick county area since 1988. Bill and Judy Rankin, who bring over 50 years of combined experience to RMAC, founded the club. The primary goal of RMAC is to teach self-defense, integrity and soundness of mind and body with proper emphasis on control. The traditional arts are designed to help build character and prepare the student for self-defense situations as well as teach them how to avoid conflicts.

What is Offered?

Okinawa Uchuno Shorin-ryu Karate is the combination of the ancient style of 5 major Okinawa Shorin-ryu arts and several of the Japanese/Philippians/Chinese and Korean Martial Arts.

Classes are offered to men, women and youth.

What is our Program about?

Most people study the martial arts for self-defense, self-discipline and self-confidence. Other people study for health benefits. The RMAC programs teaches a very effective means of self-defense, as well as an all around body conditioning athletic activity. Considerable demands are made on one's  self-discipline, both physically and mentally. The program is also very valuable for character development. In short, the RMAC Training Program helps produce a well-balanced, self-confident personality, able to avoid conflict but skilled to defend when necessary. Karate is an ancient Okinawa art of self-defense in which bare hands and feet are used for protection. The term "Karate" when translated means "Empty-hands". Self-Defense techniques utilizing the body's natural ability to defend itself is an integral part of our program. All techniques use elbow locks, wrist locks, shoulder locks, reverse hand locks, finger locks and pressure points with takedowns. We try to use every "streetwise" maneuver as much as possible. An excellent workout for law enforcement officers.

RMAC teaches our youth how to deal with today's social issues with kindness, gentleness and respect. We want our children to be safe-conscious and not afraid or paranoid of their surroundings.  Our methods of training do not shock the youth but they do educate. We attempt to deal with all issues to include rape awareness.  We use extreme tactful methods.

With the number of studios closing in the area and across the United States, students worry about loosing their rank when transferring to another school. The Rankin Martial Arts Club provides easy transfer without the loss of rank under Black Belt. Any Black Belt transferring will be ranked as a Brown Belt until they have learned the methods/techniques taught by the Rankin Martial Arts Club.

Additional Educational Aspects

The Rankin Martial Arts Club provides all students with education of human anatomy and physiology.  It is very important that all students know the human body and how it reacts to trauma inflected by another human.
